We were contacted a while back by our mayors office, notifying us that they had been following Angelyns volunteer efforts and had nominated her to be recognized at the Governors Brightest Star Awards (link for more info. in the first comment below). While shes honored to be recognized, Angelyn really isnt sure what any of this is all about, and were okay with that. I debated posting anything on here, since the essence of this page is simply to rally and inspire whenever Angelyn has new missions, but I finally decided it belongs here. Were all united, at least in some small way, because of this girls gumption. As her mom, Im insanely proud of the young lady shes growing up to be. Over the past couple of years, Ive seen her crumble on multiple occasions as the emotions of realizing some of lifes harshest realities have registered on her tender heart. Each and every emotional breakdown has been immediately followed by a brainstorming session of ways to roll up her sleeves and do something to help, rather than sit by in despair. Her desire to help and her creative ways of doing so have inspired her parents, her siblings, her friends, and complete strangers (who are now counted as new friends!). With each passing year, she only gets more determined in her mission(s). With so many of you wonderful people encouraging her efforts, her confidence in her ability to make positive changes in the world around her continues to grow, as well. I really can never thank you enough for helping her believe with her whole heart and soul that big things can happen even when they are sparked by small people. I only hope that I can be the parent she needs to help guide her in her tireless quest! Congratulations, sweet Angelyn! Now go back to being your witty, goofy, independent, 9-yr-old self who keeps us all on our toes ;)
