Weather was great …Resort wasn’t! Punta Cana Dec 27 to Jan 3 I’ve never wrote a negative review on a resort but I don’t want anyone else to be taken advantage of! The Melia Caribe Tropical in Punta Cana is marketed as 4.5 star all inclusive resort and is priced like one however fails on so many levels: 1. Check In …..over 1 hour with no one else in line! 2. Accommodations are small! Junior Elegance Suite I don’t think so!! No bath tub, single beds…I slept in a cot most of the week. 3. This isn’t an all inclusive resort! There are additional costs for some of the restaurants for example if we wanted steak and lobster on New Year’s the additional charge was $75 per person. 4. Wine is terrible but you guessed it for an extra charge they have a wine list. 5. They don’t leave you alone, on the resort someone tries to sell you timeshare or swim with the dolphins; on the beach others try to sell you a massage or Para-sailing. 6. The beach was full of seaweed and garbage. I was told this is seasonal. Exposed wires too. 7. The resort is huge, so big you need to take a trolley to dinner, to the beach and to the fitness centre. 8. You will not see service with a smile unless you tip! 9. How do you screw up pancakes? Food options at buffet are limited and food quality isn’t great. 10. At the end of your trip staff gives you a card with their name on it and ask for a positive review or trip advisor or orbitz! Really! Lesson: Don’t believe all the reviews online you will find many positive but read on and be objective. We did raise our issues with the resort, their solution? On our departure they gave us a letter offering a room upgrade next time we return! Seriously get it right the first time! On the upside my kids loved the trip and that is what matters most!! Frankie
