Wednesday 1-21-15 I hear it all the time; We should do more ab work because I want better abs. A 6-pack is the most desired goal in every gym in the world. Clients do weighted sit ups, crunches, twists, ab blaster classes and every gimmick promising them a 6-pack. Why doesnt everyone have one? Seriously. If endless ab exercises built 6-pack abs, everyone should walk around with a set of the most defined, sculpted abdominals this side of air brushing. To be honest, some people have the genetics that allow them to live off pizza and have the best abs on the planet...we all hate them. Some people work their asses off and eat perfectly to achieve that look. Excluding the 1 percenters that are born with abs, abs are created by your diet. Everyone has a rectus abdominus (abs); thats anatomy 101. The problem is they are covered in fat. The same goes for your glutes, thighs, biceps and any other muscle you want to show off. Exercise strengthens and helps define the muscles you’re looking for, but nutrition is the main ingredient that helps show off the hard work. Your body fat not lbs on the scale is the most important factor in showing off your figure. Its January and that means we are doing body composition tests. I get asked Whats a good body fat percentage? The answer depends on your goals. Typically for men it’s around 10% and for women 15%. That doesnt mean everyone should be that number. Body types are different, but moving towards these numbers is desirable. So, what should you eat for amazing abs? A good diet would be a balanced diet that includes whole not processed foods. This includes water. Most people try to starve themselves because some stupid app says to eat x calories for z results without factoring in y. This wrecks your metabolism and causes the opposite result. A great way is through strength training. Strength training not only builds muscle, it can jumpstart your metabolism and increase muscle definition. The American College of Sports Medicine has discovered cardio is most effective in short, high intensity intervals or as we like to say METCONS. We are kicking off a couple of new additions to the Nutrition Coaching. I think you will love it because it will add more support to your journey. Since I built 4Balance on the premise of support, community and relationships. We are adding the following: **NEW** -We are now offering a 4B nutrition support group. In order to be successful, you need the support of friends, family, and us! Do you feel like you need the extra support from peers that are going through the same things and can relate? We are here to help. These meetings will be held bi-weekly on days that are to be determined. **NEW** -During the first two weeks, you have the option of choosing the Kitchen Cleanse or Hunter Gatherer options. The Kitchen Cleanse, normally $30 but free with this package, involves Michael/Sam coming to your house and teaching you what you can and cant eat in your pantry/refrigerator. -The Hunter Gatherer option, normally $30 but free with this package, involves Michael/Sam going with you to the grocery store and teaching you how to shop for healthy food options and what to avoid. We will do everything except pay your bill.
