Wednesday, August 21, 2013 Scripture lesson for today: Revelation 22: 18-19 “I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this book; if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away that person’s share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.” This solemn warning contains some of the words that John writes as he sums up the last book of the Bible. Some will argue that they only pertain to the book of Revelation, while others say that it pertains to all of the Word of God using Deuteronomy 4:2 and 12:32 as its proof. Being Holy Spirit inspired words which John wrote down, one can only surmise exactly what God wants us to believe. My thought is that there is way too much at stake here for anyone to add to or subtract from God’s Word; from Genesis to Revelation. But the fact remains that many have and will continue to alter the words of God to make them fit their own desires, wishes and needs. They will twist the truth to make it fit. They will distort the true meaning of the Word and falsely state its meaning. They will try to get others to follow so as to not be the only one doing the things that they want to do. They are false teachers, messengers of Satan, evil doers and deceivers. Let us forever recognize and rebuke those who falsely teach; but let us pray for them that they, too, may see the light. Prayer: Merciful Father, grant us the knowledge of your Word and give us the wisdom to keep from altering your Word to fit our supposed needs. Let us see these words as the words of truth that they are meant to be. We ask this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
