Welcome to Churubusco Jr-Sr HS! Providing excellence in education, promoting lifelong learning, and preparing students for an evolving world. Slogan--- “Preparing our students for the world of tomorrow!” As we enter the last month of 2014, Churubusco Junior-Senior High School is preparing our staff and students for 2013 and beyond. With our last report card from the Indiana Dept. of Education, also known as the A-F Accountability Report Card, we received a grade of a “B” for the junior high and “B” for the senior high with a total grade of a “B” for Churubusco Junior-Senior High School. We are strongly encouraged by the significant gains of our students in all areas of our curriculum. During the past year, the staff has been working hard to put processes and safeguards in place so we meet the expectations of the state, our community, parents, and our vision. I would like to highlight some of these processes: 1. We learned through the A-F Accountability Report Card two years ago that we were not preparing enough of our students for college and careers (also called College and Career Readiness). Since 2012, we have increase the number of opportunities for our students in the areas below a. Our students can now take up to 30 college credit hours through Ivy Tech. With this change, our students will receive college credit that is transferrable to any state university. Our students and families will see a cost benefit to this option. b. For the second year, our students have the opportunity to participate in the vocational programs at Impact Institute in Kendallville. In all programs, students learn from professionals in the field, and will receive certificates upon completion of the program. In addition to the vocational programs, students can take Ivy Tech courses at the Kendallville site. Transportation will be provided by Smith-Green Community Schools. 2. Quarterly tests have been implemented and are analyzed by every teacher in the building. By focusing on formative assessments, both our students and instructors benefit in the learning process. Our data meetings are now driven by all of the department members. 3. JH enrichment has helped focus our junior high students on our student improvement goals through daily practice, has provided a support system for students below ISTEP standards, and lastly has helped develop the 21st century skills such as team work and creativity through PBL projects. 4. Eagle Time has been a great benefit for students needing extra tutoring, more practice and reading time, as well as providing collaboration time for our teachers. 5. Last year, the junior high teachers developed a focused plan to “tackle” our ISTEP testing. Our students and teachers worked very hard and the results were amazing. As you can see, we are trying to carry out the mission and vision for our students. They will benefit from the preparation, processes and programs and will be better prepared for the future! Jim Folland, Jr./Sr. High School Principal Mission The mission of Churubusco Junior/Senior High School is to create a safe, respectful, inclusive learning environment that fosters and develops in students the knowledge, skills, and citizenship necessary for students to become active and positive members of a global society. Vision Providing excellence in education, promoting lifelong learning, and preparing students for an evolving world. Slogan “Preparing our students for the world of tomorrow!”
