Well, I spent 10 hours in my class today. It was all very overwhelming. I usually spend 2 weeks getting my room done in August. I guess I have to let go of wanting everything to be perfect. Its hard to creatively arrange 30 desks in a small classroom. Thats how many kids I will have this year. I dont have any idea who I will have, but I know there are at least 5 with designations, but no aide time. Sigh! Ive already spent $50 for things I need in my class. Ill have to make another trip to the dollar store on the weekend for scrub pads, as the 7 minutes allotted for each classroom does not give the custodian enough time to sweep, wash the floors, and scrub the desks. My students will be washing their desks twice a day with my scrub pads so they have a clean space to work and eat. Should I have to buy cleaning supplies for my class? I think I will have to rethink a lot of things. Its hard to get myself psyched when I know my employer (the goverment) does not have any respect for what I do. What I do know is that I love what I do and love watching kids faces light up when they learn something new. Please dont let our fight for better funding go by the wayside. As time goes on, people forget. I know there are a lot more people who are aware of what is happening. Thank you for your support during this really difficult time.
