Well it has been one horrible week for the down east commuinty. First with the selfish acts of one that ended the lives of 2 of our friends - Valerie and Dennis. Then my next door neighbor - my wifes cousin, Jeffrey Taylor had his boat explode on him and suffers from 2nd degree burns and is at the Chapel Hill Burn Center waiting to have a skin graph done to his arm on Monday. And just today, the doctors at Vidant Hospital told the family of my good friend, Michael Gillikin, that they needed to spend as much time with Michael as they can because his lungs are not working. Only the ventilator to keep him breathing. They call it Pulmonary Fibrosis and they dont understand what causes it. This is just so sudden and unexpected. Michael is one of the nicest guys you would ever like to know. So thoughtful, caring in so many ways for so many people, and dedicated to his family and friends and their needs. He has been there for his dad, Hiram for many years and sacrificed a many a day so he could be there for his family that love and will miss him very much. Michael and his family feel like a second family of my own. I know I am always welcome at the Gillikin House up there on Crow Hill Rd. I have spent a many day with Michael and his brother, Mark and have gotten to know his sisters and their families and Mr. Hiram. I love Michael as a brother and I love the family and my heart has gone out to them this week. I am so glad Mark and I got the chance to talk to him Monday night for what was probably his last conversation. A lot of tears have been shed this week for so many. I tell ya we all better not waste another minute sharing good times with their family and loved ones because you never know what tomorrow will bring. Its no secret that Michael loved Heavy Metal Ballads and beautiful women and I heard this song on the radio on the way home from the hospital and it reminded me of him. I remember sitting there at his house a many a time and he would crank up this song or another 80s bands song so loud you couldnt stand it and he would sing to the top of his lungs and know every word of it. Well, Michael, I guess tomorrow you will be leaving us to go see your mama. I know you miss her greatly. And I just want to say I love you and I will miss you so much. Life just wont be quite right without you for so many. So this song is for you, Michael. And as Michael would say every time he ended a phone call, a text or if you were leaving, HOLDER!!!!,
