Well, the time has come. I have made a very hard decision for myself. I am retiring as of right now from competition. I have had a 20+ year career that I am very proud of. judo black belt multiple time sambo national champ Pan Am champ and several time placer 7 time US team member at sambo worlds British Open champ Dutch Open champ bronze and a gold at this years Belgian Open American Sambo Associations first International Merited Master of Sport My decision is based on the status of my beat up and worn out 42 year old body. I literally hurt everyday. I have had 3 knee surgeries and literally have no cartilage left in them. I have a herniated disc in my neck. And most recently, at the Belgian Open mentioned above, I tore every tendon in my rotator cuff. Had surgery in April. I was told to not wrestle for a year, and being who I am, I began training in August for a tournament this Nov. STUPID. If I continue to consider myself a competitor, I will continue to train at competition intensity. Retiring will allow me to focus on my body. I will continue to coach and train at my own pace. I love helping whoever get ready for competition. And I want to thank any and everyone who has played a part in my career.
