Were getting close on Dave Haass new Folkcraft Custom Series dulcimers. Closeup of head inlay depicting a water molecule. Red for oxygen, white for hydrogen, maple connectors to represent the covalent bond. These instruments (were making a matched pair) have Claro walnut bodies, western red cedar soundboards, ebony fingerboard veneers, Galax backs, Fishman pickup systems, and our new rigid cases. They have partial frets (not half frets) under the middle string only at the 1 1/2 fret position. Steve did the inlay work. Parts were made by Jim, Craig, and Terry. Bruce is doing the actual instrument building (hand sanding and fitting each of the parts). Craig is spraying the nitrocellulose lacquer. Nick is responsible for rubbing out the lacquer, installing strings and hardware, and setting up the instrument. Nikki made the cases. And Richard (thats me) takes all the credit, as usual. Dave is planning on being in Woodburn later this week to pick up the completed instruments. One dulcimer will be a standard, the other will be a baritone. Ill post photos after Nick has finished all of the setup work.
