West Point Man Arrested Second Time For TennCare Fraud For the second time a West Point resident has been arrested on charges of TennCare fraud for allegedly using his son’s benefits to pay for his personal medical treatment. Officials with the Tennessee Office of Inspector General (OIG) report that David Wayne Byrd, Sr., age 33, was recently indicted on numerous charges through Maury County, including seven counts of TennCare fraud, seven counts of identity theft, and one count of theft of services. He is accused of obtaining medical services for himself there and using his minor son’s TennCare benefits to pay for them. Byrd was arrested similarly in Lawrence County in July after he was indicted locally on 14 counts of TennCare fraud, 14 counts of identity theft, and six counts of theft of services. Locally, Byrd is charged with fraudulently obtaining medical services for himself at Crocket Hospital, Team Health Emergency Room, Southern Radiology Associates, and the Lawrence County Ambulance Service. OIG reports that identity theft and theft of services of between $1,000 and $10,000 are Class D felonies that carry a maximum punishment of four years imprisonment per charge. TennCare fraud is a Class E felony carrying a maximum penalty of two years imprisonment per charge. LawrenceburgNow
