Western Louisville needs improvements for the better our sidewalks - TopicsExpress

Western Louisville needs improvements for the better our sidewalks are crumbling, our young people lack chances for jobs and the lack of everything plagues our community. The economic pipeline stops at 9th street it effects everyone of all races who live in the West End. This has not happened overnight, and it will not be solved in a day, our communities for the most part have been let to suffer and fend for themselves. Our current Metro Council has no answers, leaders lack vision. Our Downtown area reflects just that, and the same old folks who have become fixtures from one city agency to another remain. To begin with we must have everyone at the table Democrats, Republicans, Independents we must have folks from the east side, south side, west side, north side there as well, we need a clear agenda and a set of goals. For example if we desire to reopen a closed boy club, then we must have a clear point in which to start or if we want improved public transit on Broadway we must have a well developed plan on how it can be better. Everyone has ideas to bring to a table, we must work together to solve local issues if our Council members Democrat or Republican are not doing enough then we have to push the issues. To my Democratic and Independent friends although our politics are different we belong to two rival political partys it does not mean we both do not have ideas for the betterment of the over all community. The neglect of West Louisville is everyone concern. I can not buy the excuse progress moves slow, the wheels of government take time, that is just an excuse for a half baked effort. Or that is outside my district and procedure within the council prohibits me from bringing legislation to the table that is outside my district does it not take a majority of 26 to make a law or change policy are they not elected to serve the city as a whole ? One member alone can do nothing without the rest, but unfortunately for the West End real answers are not pushed for or else we would be ten light years ahead of where we are today and that includes members from both political parties currently on that council Louisville at the time of organisation of the new government could have formed a non partisan council like Lexington we also could have created real things for our County Judge and Commission to do such as the Judge serving as a vice Mayor and the County Commission being a middle board of bringing concerns to the Metro Council. I also have concerns how Metro Council members can represent the small cities live in second , third and other small cities when merger did not include the small citys we only merged the no mans land of the old county and dissolve the old city of Louisville in to one Indian Hills , St Mathews, all stayed the same For the most part the small city residents have a second government to go to and that government can do things their own way if they so desire. I must agree with Rev. Louis Coleman the entire old city has suffered under merger. All of this said we need to meet stay focused on one local problem at a time and get things moving better than they have been before and thats going to take us all. The Metro Government is broke and we must fix it
