Weve had several people asking about Bevo so figured I would update and let everyone know what happened. Monday night after practice, he came home complaining with pain in his side and back, and after hearing the symptoms and seeing the swelling we thought he had broken a rib. I took him to the dr yesterday morning and they thought that he had possibly broken ribs but were more concerned with his spleen, and were afraid it was bruised or bleeding. He was sent for X-rays and a CT. Thankfully there were no broken bones or bleeding from his spleen, but his spleen and liver were both enlarged. He will be out of football and any sports for at least a week. As of today, he is still pretty sore and there is still some swelling. He has trouble sitting and it seems to be easier to stand or lay down. Apparently this happened in the game on Sat, not from a cheap shot or illegal play, but just one of those things that happens and hit in just the right spot. Its just football. When I signed the papers for my kids to play football (& all sports), its one of those things that you know can happen, you always pray doesnt happen, but you deal with if it does happen. My kids go at sports 100%, along with several of his teammates. I dont get nervous when they play, but I do let the what ifs bother me. (yeah I know, I kinda have it backwards) We have always preached to our kids not to whine, and have raised them by the Suck It Up Buttercup method. This is one of those times I should have explained a little better to him. Please parents and coaches, remind kids that whining over every little boo boo dont cut it, but you know if something is wrong. Those inside pains that just aint right need to have some attention sometimes, so they need to let you know. Weve had a severe concussion on our team this past week, and now this, that neither kid said anything about their symptoms until days later. Both could have been really bad. Kids often want to tell the little stuff (scratches, bumps, runny noses) and not the big stuff. So just remind them of the difference between real injuries and the little things that are just part of it. Its a fine line sometimes, but these were both BIG things that could have been bad. Pray for our Wildcats. We have had several MAJOR injuries this year already, and its still early in the season. Been a tough one.
