Weve received some updated figures from the NWS. The Flood Watch - TopicsExpress

Weve received some updated figures from the NWS. The Flood Watch for the Cowlitz River is in effect through Monday. The Cowlitz is expected to crest above bankfull but under Flood Stage. What this means is that *undiked* areas of the Cowlitz will experience minor flooding. This is a typical winter scenario and these areas are well-known by the land owners close to them. The majority of the Cowlitz River is diked. Flood stage is 21.5 in Kelso and the river is expected to crest at 20.4 at approximately 4:30 p.m. Sunday. In Castle Rock, flood stage is 48 and the river is expected to crest well below that at 41 at approximately 2:00 p.m. Sunday. The Lewis River is expected to crest around 18.5 which is well below the 24 flood stage. That 18.5 figure includes expected increases in flow that are expected from the upstream projects as well as snowfall melt. Of course, precipitation amounts and exact location where the heaviest rainfall occurs is a moving target and sometimes difficult to predict with accuracy. Even so, the forecast looks favorable for the Lewis River. Rainfall amounts are expected to be significant over the next 24 hours both in the foothills and the I-5 corridor. Expect standing water on many roadways. Driving through deep standing water is extremely dangerous, remember the Turn Around, Dont Drown advice. Stay safe and stay dry!
