What forgiveness brings is such a beautiful, heartfelt freedom, where you allow God not only to be God but to be your Father and Friend. Forgiveness is such a deep reflection of love: you showing love to others when you forgive them and accepting [and receiving] love from others when you accept their forgiveness. Unforgiveness (if there really is such a word, my spell check tells me no but hay) is very deadly and can forcefully yet very slowly drill you into such bondage, where the character of God and others has been twisted. It can bring you to a place of condemnation, depression, physical sickness, mental trauma, resentment basically going through life very numb to your surroundings, even your own emotions. I call that sleepwalking through life. I wont go too deep into this, but I always thought I had forgiven...forgiven myself and others who have hurt me, dating way back into primary school. My life and my response to life and people was always influenced and controlled by my past hurts. There was no freedom in that as it caused me to want approval from people first and never really see what God saw in me. It was so strenuous that even prayer did seem to help. (Thats not to say prayer isnt powerful, PRAYER IS VERY POWERFUL). However it took me one very detailed day with God to realize that the biggest problem was that I hadnt truly forgiven. In my time of being to busy, playing church and not truly listening to God, He waited for a day where He showed me the answer to my problems, or rather the cause to all my problems. Unlike man, God deals with the causes/roots and doesnt play around with the symptoms hoping they would solve everything. Gods hammer is right at the root and until you allow for God Himself to reveal to you and heal you from the root, you wont be freed from whatever it is holding you back. Choosing to forgive GODS WAY has truly been the most liberating, heartfelt and exciting choice I ever chose after My King Jesus. Forgiveness is part of the foundation to salvation as it involves God forgiving you and setting you free so that you can forgive yourself too. Its a day to day choice to wake up and walk in forgiveness. Its part of laying it down. Its not easy but trust me, its so much easier than living in a place where you havent really forgiven. Until you can see someone whos hurt you the way God sees them and truly believe in your heart that s/he is also furiously loved by God, forgiven by God and deserves the best from God just like you do, you havent truly forgiven. After all, God furiously loves them too and wants the best for them. Yes, there really is a GOD, the only GOD who loves so scandalously, furiously and passionately. My GOD yearns for you to receive His forgiveness as a symbol of His great LOVE. Its not to late. Just surrender. Bless day....
