What have you been up to?Troy University’s S.A.V.E. Project to host Mental Health Awareness Week activities TROY -- The S.A.V.E. Project and Personal Counseling Center at Troy University will host a series of events beginning Oct. 7, focusing on controlling worry, dealing with stress and maintaining positive thoughts in observance of Mental Health Awareness Week. The events are designed to offer information and tips to help students deal with what can be a stressful time in their lives, said Fran Scheel, coordinator and counselor for the S.A.V.E. Project. “College students are often stressed, and sometimes there is a stigma regarding mental health,” Scheel said. “It’s important to let students know that there is a resource right here on campus to help.” The Center will hold events from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day throughout the week at a booth on Bibb Graves Quad. Themed events include: · Oct. 7, “Turn Your Lemons into Lemonade,” offering students tips on how to control worry and the power of positive thinking. Free lemonade will be available; · Oct. 8, “Get It Off Your Chest,” during which students can unburden themselves anonymously by submitting a secret, fear or worry; · Oct. 9, “Stressed Spelled Backwards Is Desserts,” offering students free chocolate candy while they learn about healthy stress reduction strategies; · Oct. 10, “How Are You Doing in Bed?” which provides students information on ways to ensure a better night’s sleep. Free sleep masks and ear plugs will be given away while supplies last.
