What is the Central Committee? To the average voter, it is a - TopicsExpress

What is the Central Committee? To the average voter, it is a little-known obscure elected position that only appears on the primary election ballot. The party central committee does things like raises funds for candidates, holds get out the vote efforts, maybe even buys ads for the party when funds are available. Of all the things it does, perhaps the most visible and most immediately impactful are the decisions it makes in appointing people to vacated public office seats. Certainly, its somewhat rare for an elected official to leave, and the committee is called upon rarely to perform such an important and visible service to the party and our local government. The other 99% of the time, the Central Committee is a thankless and time consuming position that usually goes unrecognized even by some veterans in the political and public opinion arena. So why would anyone in their right mind volunteer to be elected to this? I cant speak for everyone else, I can only speak for myself. I am 44 years old, married with two sons 7 and 6. I am a small businessman and continue to work and be successful despite the odds against me in a state that is 47th in the country in small business growth. As I watch and participate in each election cycle, I see the same beaten attitudes among Republicans. I see good candidates who dont believe they can win. I also see a wing of our party that is further gone, and in misguided desperation would rather sunder any opportunity that we could have to take back this state. I am going to say what needs to be said here. Our party has failed us, it has failed our candidates. It didnt fail for lack of good people. I could never put in the amount of time people such as Woody and Joan do, and the many others that have served the committee for decades or more. But they are not islands, and their work can be blunted or cancelled out without the focus on the basics. Our party fails because somewhere along the line we got caught up in trying to be different, rather than focusing on winning campaigns. We forgot the primary rule learned in PS 101: Parties exist to win elections - nothing more. At the local level, the party platform does not matter nearly as much as a PROPERLY run campaign, party support, exuberant volunteers, and a party-led GOTV (get out the vote) event. In fact, if the average voter knows more about the party platform than he or she does the candidate, that is a serious failure. I have run into several new candidates that were unaware of some basic rules of how to set up and run a campaign. Our local party is too busy infighting to assist with much of that. We lost our way. We are setting up bright new candidates to fail and blaming the 2 to 1 registered D to R for the loss. We leave out the fact that many Ds will consistently vote Republican especially in districts like Legislative 6 and Council 7. We need only give them a reason. I run because I dont believe our party is beaten by anyone but ourselves. I will bring duty and focus to the role, and a return to retail politics and effective grass-roots campaigns. It pains me to watch candidates with small bank accounts pay consultants from another state for the latest get-votes-quick scheme. That should never happen on a local race, and we should all be embarrassed to witness such events. I also run because Im tired of looking backwards. Real Republicans lead, inspire, and remind us all how prosperity can be produced when the binds of a taxing and overbearing government are lifted, and free people are left to achieve their own destiny. Its time for our party to look forward, reinvent themselves, and support and embrace tomorrows Republican today; Because it should now be very obvious that yesterdays cult-of-personality Republican CAN NOT WIN. I ask for your support in the primary in district 5, place the check mark next to my name…its the first one on the list. W. Doug Anderson
