What is your calling? I caught a ride with a distant relative - TopicsExpress

What is your calling? I caught a ride with a distant relative today who is a lecturer at Midlands State. As our conversation progressed he revealed that he was a former ZRP officer having served over 20years. I couldnt help but notice the pride with which he spoke of his former career. Sezvineyi, We got stuck in a traffic jam caused by a chaotic roadblock along Samora Macheal. As we maneuvered our way past one cop signally for us to STOP while the other said GO, I again couldnt help but notice the way his voice dropped, his face saddened and he quietly shook his head. Just as i hopped out at my spot i asked him WHY in heavens name did he ever want to be a policeman in the ZIMBABWE REPUBLIC POLICE and to my utmost surprise he replied (with a glee might I add) - it was a calling.... Tjooo..... ndamira hoo mufunge! I thought - thats it!!! Yes , THATS IT! thats why the majority of our younger police officers, military cadres or even prison officers DONT quite get it right (for lack of another way to put it) particularly when it comes to public relations. It WASNT their calling. Nekuwoma kwehupenyu particularly because of the extreme rate of unemployment (no jobs not lack of skills), many young aZimbabwean are opting to get into policemen profession because at least they will get a somewhat steady flow of income zhinu zvoto faya. But the problem with that scenario is ...... well if you live in Zimbabwe presently , i need not say more. Isu tiri vemadrama ne Zvebeuaty beauty, and YES , entertainment/ cosmetology IS MY CALLING. Hazvisati zvakubhadhara (the way the industry should) yet - But because it IS MY CALLING, passion, dedication and responsibility to my trade are what keep me at the top of my game in ALL I DO and in so doing I endevour to inspire others to pursue their calling in my trades. Ngatiedzeyi kushanda mumabasa edu regardless what you are doing, in a way that those that are around us and in particular the young ones around us are inspired to emulate the good we are doing in our professions. Zvinebasa mufunge. #foodforthought . When last did you hear a Zimbabwean child say when i grow up I want to be a policeman/woman......
