What makes my life difficult is what makes my life beautiful. What - TopicsExpress

What makes my life difficult is what makes my life beautiful. What makes ME difficult is what makes me beautiful. That is the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God. This year Ive spent a good amount of my time and energy traveling and speaking to my people (the druggies and drunks and bulimics and anxious and depressed and bi-polar and lost and empty and filled to bursting) and to the mental health professionals. My message is usually the same: that we are special people. That life is extra hard for us at first but that if we can get the right tools, the right team, the right healing and the right disciplines in place: we always become, in my unbiased opinion, the BEST people. We become the ones who find the truest beauty and who live the biggest and deepest lives. All of my favorite people in the world are the ones who struggle. Victor Frankl said: What is to give light must endure burning. I live for the light givers. We have a tough time of it, but so the hell what? So the hell what? Who said easy was the winner? Ill take the beautiful hard. This year Ive been named a member of Honorary Committee for Mental Health America’s 2015 Conference. Im giving the keynote this year. I dont usually announce things like that, but it felt right this time. I just wanted my people to know. And I just wanted to tell you burning light givers that Im doing my best to translate us to the world. Im trying to be a bridge so that the people who love us can get closer to us - so that were not so alone in here. Im trying to explain why we hurt the people we love and why we hurt ourselves. Im trying to explain why we hold on so tight- how it can be that the part of us that burns us and others is also the most precious part of us. Im trying to explain that we dont want our fire taken away - we just want help taming it and focusing it so we can use it to light up the whole world. Im aware that speaking for the light givers is the most important work I do. Just know that I love you and I respect you and I know how hard it is and I Know How Good You Are in there. Also - this was my favorite essay of the 2014. This is me. Love to all the Light Givers and Love to all whove been burned by us. We are sorry. We love you so much.
