What training games do you play with your dog? One game that we have played with Alfie since he was a young pup is Hide and Seek, aka FIND ME! (Find Me is a good phrase to use as its easy to say it excitedly; I had read about it on an internet forum for spaniel owners. I usually pitch the Find quite high and then the Me a bit lower). We first taught Alfie this at home, with one of us very obviously hiding under a blanket and calling Find me!. Then progressed to having the person hide behind some furniture or a curtain, then in the next room, garden, and so on. Once Alfie had got the hang on it, we started to use it on walks, when he was offlead. Intermittently, one of us would hang back and hide behind a tree or bush, or crouch down in a ditch, and call Find Me!, and Alfie would rush to find us. The reward would be a treat or a chase around. What we eventually found was that, even when we were all just walking along, Alfie would keep checking back to make sure one of us wasnt sneaking off to hide, and often successfully anticipating when we would do so. Its a great way to help keep your dog focussed on you, thus helping to keep their recall reliable.
