Whatever residual willingness I had to make excuses for Obama is - TopicsExpress

Whatever residual willingness I had to make excuses for Obama is gone. Now he is dramatically ramping down his feigned aspirations for a Palestinian peace in a way which sets the bar so low that the occupiers barely have to lift a heal to step over it, while from the perspective of Palestinians who are all expected to pass below it, not even the world champion of Limbo dancing could get through to safety on the other side. The talk is no longer about greater Palestine, the West Bank or Golan Heights but rather is now entirely focused on Gaza as if Palestinians there were a distinct nation of peoples from there brethren who still tenaciously cling to their ancestral lands in the rest of occupied Palestine. The noble Palestinian cause is being whittled down in the wests public discourse to the much smaller issues of the unlawful blockade imposed on Gaza and the BDS inspired campaign aiming to compel Israel to be nicer to Palestinians as it continues to usurp what remains of the territory. Another organ for the Empire,The Hill reports today that President Obama on Wednesday said he has “no sympathy” for Hamas, the Palestinian group labeled a terrorist organization by the United States that has warred for the past month with Israel. Speaking to reporters at the State Department at the close of the U.S. Africa Leaders Summit, Obama expressed “great sympathy for ordinary people who are struggling within Gaza,” but also offered repeated support for Israel’s right to defend itself. In the short term, Obama said he hoped that a cease fire would continue, and that rocket launches would not resume. He also said he believed that Israel had been largely successful in closing tunnels from Gaza to Israel that had been built up to launch attacks on Israel. In the long term, he said, he hoped to rebuild a Gaza that “has been badly damaged.” In addition, he added, that “there has to be a recognition that Gaza cannot sustain itself permanently, closed off from the world.” And he added that a peaceful resolution in Gaza “will have to involve” the Palestinian Authority. The reference in this shoddy piece straight out of the Zioganda Handbook, to Hamas being ... labeled a terrorist organization by the United States that has warred for the past month with Israel is scandalous! Not only does the claim misrepresent the Hamass legitimate effort to defend against a belligerent and criminal assault by Israel, but it also falsely states that the entire Hamas organization has been designated as a terrorist organization by the US! If that were the case, then how do Obama and The Hill explain Americas previous support for Hamas participation in a Unity Government and ho do they explain Americas willingness to be part of an Egyptian sponsored peace process which involves negotiating directly with Hamas? After all, how many times have we been told by successive US Presidents that America does not negotiate with terrorist?
