Whats all this stuff about Keto I keep hearing about? Check out these all-stars compiled by Vivica over at The Nourished Caveman. Wonderful recipes and up-lifting stories! Awesomeness. If youve been following or interested in the Paleo lifestyle for a while you may have come across the term Keto or Ketosis. In a nutshell its a method of turning you body/metabolism into a fat burning machine instead of a sugar/glucose burning machine - your body becomes keto adapted and starts using your fat reserves for fuel instead of sugar. Its more than just going low carb, which most do by default just by switching to a paleo template. However, like Vivica (The Nourished Caveman), I learned a couple years ago that I was insulin resistant even after going paleo. Im sure if I hadnt changed my diet I would be diabetic by now, but paleo certainly slowed that down to a degree, but I was unwittingly still consuming higher carbs than my body could handle - paleo treats, sweet potato, fruit. Please dont think Im demonising these amazing micronutrients, but if youre struggling with weight loss or have the typical spare tyre around your middle, then its possible that youre insulin resistant and highly carb intolerant, and something I would have checked sooner than later with your doctor - i.e having your HB1Ac, Fasting Blood Glucose/Insulin tests done. For me, it was time to step it up a notch. I started my keto journey a few months back. For the first time in a long time Im starting to see the last of my 10kg starting to budge - albeit very slow, but thats fine by me - slow and steady wins the race, right?
