This is just a guideline and should be used to judge where you could be putting in more work. Exceeding these guides will only get you there faster. #1 Give Respect and be Grateful Respect and be Grateful for ALL music genres, and their History. Respect those before you that opened up your opportunity to live off music. Be grateful to everyone who creates art no matter their level and where they are at. #2 Write good music Take how many years you’ve been rapping and divide that by 2. That’s how many Verses per day you should be writing. Writing good music is the biggest FOUNDATION for your career. Its takes time to develop but if you stick to or exceed this guideline you will see consistent improvement. Take the extra steps to study music theory, music business/law and recording/mixing. #3 Freestyle Well Take how many years you been rapping multiply by 7 and that’s how many minuets per day you should freestyle for. Whether by yourself, with people, in the studio, where ever or however Just Do It! #4 Record All Your Music Think of recording your music as if you are packaging a product for distribution. You want it to look and sound great while being a quality long lasting song in some ones future. A performance in the studio is different than on stage but they are beneficial to each other. It takes time to develop yourself in the studio and find your sound. Release a mix tape at least every month. Take how many years you’ve been rapping multiply by 5 and that’s how many tracks you should shoot for on every mix tape. #5 Promote Your Self Relentlessly. Take the years you have been rapping and multiply by 3. That’s how many social sites you should be on and active in DAILY. Upload your mix tapes to ALL mix tape sites. Make your OWN webpage with your own music for sale. There are more video sites other than YouTube. There are more social networks other than twitter and facebook. Get PROFESSIONAL pictures and videos done often also get professionally done graphic design for everything. Not everyone knows a PROFESSIONAL photographer/videographer or graphic designer so PAY to get it done as BEST AS POSSIBLE. #6 Perform and Network at every event. Take the number of years you been rapping and multiply that by 30. Perform at Every event within that many miles of you whether free, paid, or even if YOU are paying GET ON THAT SHOW. For every show strive towards a completely LIVE set as in NO BACKING TRACKS! Most rappers will need 1 or 2 people to be able to dub and adlib LIVE. Take the number of years you been rapping and multiply that by 6. That’s how many minutes per day you should practice performing. When you perform do something different from everyone else. And if you aint in the show be AT THE SHOW. NETWORK with artists and fans using flyers, biz cards, mix tapes, t shirts and any other creative way you can think of. Stay for the whole show! #7 Connect with people who like your music. Pay attention, talk to and be grateful towards every person who takes an interest in and starts to like and listen to your music. FANS ARE FRIENDS WHO SUPPORT OUR MUSIC. 500 dedicated fans that will pay for 20 dollars’ worth of music is WORTH MORE than 9000 fans spending 1 dollar.
