When I went back in the Army in 1972 and was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division, our idea of high tech was to have a large map encased in a heavy wooden frame that would light up. When I retired, 22 years late in 1994, we were doing multimedia briefings using computers and electronic screens and had real time tactical computers. A couple of years later when I was consulting, the Army was doing live teleconferencing from multiple field locations making it unnecessary for brigade commanders to travel to to the Division Tactical Command Post to meet with the Division Commander.
