When is the last time you heard music so beautiful that it made - TopicsExpress

When is the last time you heard music so beautiful that it made you weep with joy? And no, you are not drunk, you are stone cold sober. I am more than a little crazy about my music. I float through life in a haze of melodies, ones that I have been faithful to over the last thirty five years. Yes, call me boring, call me unimaginative, the music I listen today is no different to what I listened when I was fifteen. Stuck in this strange time warp I remain faithful to those glorious bands, bands to whom we showed allegiance and solidarity by buying their entire albums until we owned the entire series. I can admit now there were times when I strayed; I listened to some different stuff out of peer pressure or to look cool, but then mercifully these times were few and far apart. This music has seen me through the swells and troughs of adolescence, heartbreak (of which there were many), illness and triumph. Each song freeze frames a special moment; maybe it was all the rage when I was in junior college, or perhaps it was playing in the background when I opened the telegram that announced my admission into architecture college. Thats because music has this special ability to make a connection of time with memory. Chances are that you will instantly connect a particular passage of music to a certain phase of your life, and when someday you do chance upon a tune, the years will simply melt away, transporting you to a time in the distant past. This evening I heard Billy Joel, a great singer and more importantly a wonderful entertainer and a showman like none other. And I cried to this tune. At fifty its so easy to admit such foolish behaviour, its liberating.
