When saving money is not saving money! When a healthy and properly functioning and positioned heart and soul is not merely for practical matters but also for facilitating the full salvation of the soul! I am using a practical matter of life here to illustrate how it is that the mind becomes the battlefield of sorts towards our health and well being and especially in the matter of becoming complete in Christ Jesus. Keep in mind the admonition of the renewing of the mind and its relation to the salvation of the soul (mind, will and emotions)! : ) If the soul is not entirely healthy and proper in function and in order (in relation to its Master and Savior) it cannot properly function in all reason, rational, discernment, actions and in words! In an unhealthy and improperly attuned heart and soul, one is subject to the laws of chaos, disorder and every evil thing (as in James 3:16). Even in the smallest of matters and details one cannot escape this law of disorder and every evil thing and finds himself (albeit, unawares through the subsequent laws of drunkenness and blindness) subject to the mechanisms of the spiritual forces of wickedness. These forces introduce every manner of false concepts, ideologies, lies, illusions, and mannerisms into the hearts and minds of its subjects. Consider how Judas was manipulated through greed to betray the Lord and Savior! I wish to help the reader understand and grasp just how practical a matter this is in our every day lives and how difficult it is to detect. The bible seems to be full of many burdensome commands such as those regarding money, for example. Do not be greedy, do not seek to become rich, do not consider godliness to be a means of great material wealth, and if you have food and clothing, with these be content. These are not simply cold commands but they are safe guards for the health and welfare of your soul. These commands help to clean out the heart and soul of impurities in false concepts, attitudes while also guarding against the schemes and mechanisms of the enemy! To be content with only the necessities of life, for example guards one against greed! What is greed? Greed is a component of the selfish flesh. It is a mind set, an attitude, a driving force from within that motivates and stirs the ship in which way it will go. It becomes a mechanism of control in the hands of its master, the devil and his minions of all wickedness. It also serves to diffuse and degrade healthy and proper function of the mind and the heart! If left unchecked, it becomes like a disease which sickens the body, whereas in this case it sickens the normal and healthy functioning of the heart and soul! On the one hand, it is good and proper to be frugal but...if one is not perfectly and properly composed before the Lord and Savior of the soul, his frugality may quickly and easily be moved to greed (by the enemy through the laws of sin and of death in the flesh) so that, at best he does things that actually do not even make sense in terms of saving money and at worst will hurt other people in robbing them of money owed to them or in seeking win/lose deals between them instead of, in godliness always seeking the interests of others in the equation. Consider how sometimes people will drive an extra 20 miles to save two cents on the purchase of gasoline. Sometimes people will become obsessed over the use of light bulbs which actually only cost a few pennys per day while wasting huge sums of money by leaving on computers, TVs and etc. I know people who spend $5 per day on a single cup of coffee and yet strain to save money by not using toilet paper! These people profess to love God while they also rob and cause all manner of harm to his children. With their mouths they worship God and in their hearts rob both God and His precious children. I do not say this to criticize but to help bring into view how it is that the enemy works in and through the flesh through various things to gain access into the hearts and soul of people (Christian or not) to cause them to become unhealthy and dysfunctional in every way possible. How can a very intelligent, successful, bible learned and wealthy person possibly spend $1 to save two cents? It is because of the corruption of the heart and soul through the mechanisms of the enemy. The enemy takes this little open doors into the heart and soul to stir up the flesh to gain strongholds and footholds in which he may set up a home base from which to operate according to his evil intent. He then uses this home base to cause further destruction in this person and to use them in every way possible to cause destruction to others as well. The safe guard of our souls? It is in dying to self...losing our life in the world so that the divine life of Christ may enter the heart and soul bringing them into proper order, function and position before the Master/Savior...the guardian of our souls!
