When the Indian Premier League was out of the blocks, everyone thought that it is going to be one of the best cricket tournaments played ever. It had everything, the greatest of players, the finest of dances, the noisiest of parties, and the mouth watering contests were just about to mesmerize the entire cricket followers across the globe. The baby IPL has become 6 years old now and in the stretch of its odyssey, it has given everything what a cricket fan wants from the game. You see, the Indian roads have a lot of unevenness, and one cannot run his car at the rate of knotts as there could always be a speed breaker. After the Lalit Modi fiasco, the game was going along nicely but, when it rains, the lightning also falls and burns few of the places (mostly the empty ones). This time though, the lightning has fallen on the most populated areas. I heard many people saying that, IPL = gambling, here you play, you earn, you gamble you earn. Whatever has transpired in the last couple of weeks, it nothing but an eye opener for everyone. The stepping down of the top four officials of Indian cricket management councils speaks volumes of the turmoil. The Indian cricket is in shambles at this juncture and it needs a ray of hope from somewhere. The people believe that, the match fixing is not limited only to the 3 culprits but, this book has a lot of pages left in it. At this juncture, we can only hope that the remaining pages of the book are blank and this match fixing incident was only one flash in the frying pan. The game has been polluted by such actions. When the Indian cricket team is about to begin its expedition for the quest of Champions Trophy at the birthplace of cricket, one can only hope that, by the time the team returns the pollution is cleaned up and there is no more scope of any of the match fixing scandals, though the disease is communicable and it is expected that, it has taken many more into its clutches!
