When you are asking if a business is looking for new hires, there - TopicsExpress

When you are asking if a business is looking for new hires, there are some basic guidelines you really must follow or I just will not take you seriously. 1-Please do not ask while the clerk is in the middle of a transaction or otherwise occupied. Wait patiently until I have a moment. Look around the store-get familiar with what kind of job you are applying for. 2- Dont just ask and rush out. If you want me to take you serious, have a resume to leave with me. I might not have time to ask pertinent questions but I still might want to get a hold of you later. There have been people in asking and I think they might be a good fit, but I just couldnt ask questions at that time. (Plus having an example of your resume shows me your organization skills and that is crucial for booksellers.) 3- Dress appropriately. I may not be business suit and tie, but common sense please. Chewing gum (no wait- make that CHOMPING gum), dirty clothes, drinking a big slurp of pop right after you asked me a question, etc. These are red flag issues with me. 4- Job searching is not a group sport. Ive had groups of up to four people all walking in together just to see if I was hiring, and they all sigh in stereo-disappointed when I said no. What did they want me to do- eeny meeny miny mo? 5- And did I mention resumes? I may not be hiring right now, but having one from you would mean I have a way to get back to you. I am not hiring right now, but if the right person came along, I might change my mind. Im not trying to sound like a jerk..sorry- but some of the expectations of inquirers lately just seem so...I dont know... like they are playing pin the tale on the donkey. And I am the donkey. Hee Haww!
