While I absolutely refuse to engage in any discussions via Facebook statuses, and I will not be posting public commments for a social media audience that are only intended for the relevant few to whom they apply, I am going to make a general statement of observation here for all students of martial arts, both in PKSA and any other organization that teaches karate. WE ARE ALL ON THE SAME SIDE. My instructor, Master Lyle, has launched an aggressive anti-bullying campaign and has been featured on ABC 12 demonstrating some defense techniques and talking about his passion to help victims of bullying learn how to stand against it. He has even written a book about it, and he has years of personal experience himself as a former victim that enables him to relate to those that struggle with this nightmare every day of their lives. I have no ability to comprehend why any martial artist would rather slander our organization instead of standing up as the ally you are supposed to be. If you have more to add to this cause, by all means, start a campaign of your own. This is a much too big of a problem for just a few of us to handle. We teach martial arts to help others learn how to be safe. We learn martial arts to prepare ourselves to defend against anyone that would attempt to harm us. I have never looked at another martial arts school as a competitor. Of course we want to be a successful business, and Im personally very proud to be part of PKSA Karate, which I consider to be a premier martial arts organization. I also recognize the value of all martial arts, not just the one I teach and train in myself, and I am grateful for others out there that are as committed to the cause as I am. To malign another martial arts school for doing the same thing I do, teaching people how to defend themselves, seems ludicrous. The differences in our teaching styles dont matter. What matters is the reason for teaching it in the first place. To look at Master Lyle and find reasons to criticize, sit there and decide for yourself that you could do it better or that our organization has no legitimacy, means youre completely obllvious to what kind of honor a martial artist should have. Youre refusing to acknowledge the value of his efforts and throwing out petty and rude comments, disregarding the fact that he is living his life the same way youre supposed to be. The different names under which we train and teach martial arts should never be an issue. We look ridiculous when we would choose to attack one another because of someone doing it differently. Dont we all have the same goal? WE ARE ALL ON THE SAME SIDE. Or were supposed to be. Right?
