While Indianas Governor Mike Pence continues the education reforms that were started by Mitch Daniels for his Billionaire Club members, other states and educators are waking up to the hoax of the charter school movement. School administrators and parents are learning that money taken from the community isnt coming back to their schools as our legislators funnel the money toward charters (private corporations who are claiming to not be governing by public school laws). According to Stan Karp of Rethinking Schools, in Salon, But I also know the charter school movement has changed dramatically in recent years in ways that have undermined its original intentions … The counterfeit claim that charter privatization is part of a new ‘civil rights movement,’ addressing the deep and historic inequality that surrounds our schools, is belied by the real impact of rapid charter growth in cities across the country.” His conclusion? “It’s time to put the brakes on charter expansion and refocus public policy on providing excellent public schools for all.”
