Who do you worship? Who do you follow? In a poll in the - TopicsExpress

Who do you worship? Who do you follow? In a poll in the early 1990s, 92% of Americans believed that Mother Teresa would go to heaven. 87% believed that Billy Graham would make it in. 74% believed that Oprah Winfrey would make it. 63% said that Michael Jordan would get in. Bulls fans. A woman, Robyn Okrant, a yoga teacher from Chicago decided to follow the advice of Oprah Winfrey for one year so in January of 2008, she signed a pledge to do whatever Oprah advised. She ate like Oprah. She dressed like Oprah. She exercised and used makeup and gave money away and even took her marriage bed to the queendom of Oprah, queen of advice. The result? Well not so good. She wrote a book about it and it doesnt seemed to have worked out all that well. She found herself becoming more concerned about her looks and her image. She found her marriage that she thought was good to be on shaky ground. She worshipped an idol. A false idol. I have, too, at times. This pastor is great. This athlete is awesome. This thing is what I need. The problem is that God is all I need. And all anyone needs. People who follow His advice see positive changes in their lives. Changes like peace. Stronger marriages. Reconciled relationships. And they have heaven in their future. Not because of their efforts or works. Because of His work on the cross. His grace in our lives. True teachers and messengers of God do not promise riches and answers on demand from God. True teachers will tell you the truth. He loves you. He will allow you to be challenged. He wants your obedience. He wants your love. He wants your worship. You want answers? He gives you answers. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. All Scripture. Jesus died for me. I will live for Him. What else matters? Lord, I pray for those who have been hurt. I pray that they will give that to You. I pray for those who hurt others. I pray that You would draw them to You as well and forgive us. I pray for people on this day to get on their knees and give their life to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. In whose Name we pray.
