Whos up for the cable challenge... I went out and bought 14 gauge 4 wire from home depot and compared it to my cardas neutral reference... I had my friend come over so he could swap the cables so I would have no idea which one was being played... The equipment being used is Martin Logan motion 20s, the amp is marantz Sr7008 and the blu Ray is du5007... Source material is pink Floyd, and Norah Jones both SACD, also Jack Johnson and milky chance CD... It was immediately apparent to which set of cables I was listening to. The home depot cables were not as bad as I thought they would be. They actually had nice rhythm and timing, but it had no resolution or detail. The cardas which Im very familiar with has much more clarity of detail and higher resolution and a much bigger sound stage. In conclusion: I find that there are differences between cables, but the differences arent really ones that can be scientificly measured... The differences have to be experienced to understand them. For $30 the home depot cables did notsound bad, but if you can afford to go with the higher end cables then I would still recommend doing so.
