Why do you criticise something that doesnt exist???? is a question I get asked always by Christians/Theists. Here, let me help you. Watch this video: youtube/watch?v=xnbXlkNavwo. If after watching this video you still remain puzzled, then I dont know what else to say to you. The answer in a nutshell is this - things being believed in need not be real for belief in those things to have consequences in the real world. And in cases where one feels those consequences are sufficiently adverse, he or she would be justified in offering criticism of that belief system. And in the cases where the believers in that thing INSIST that all must believe in that thing and live their lives according to its whims/dictates, one would also be justified in challenging the justifications for those beliefs. When you think about it, this is all that atheists are really doing when commenting on religion or belief in God(s). So next time Im asked this tired question, I will respond by saying Then if you believe that atheism isnt real why do you criticize it??? It means you secretly are an atheist! Yes of course its a dumb response - which is precisely what a dumb question deserves. Believers who are sensible know better than to ask this question - which is why they will actually invite atheists to debate the issue further. There are interesting arguments to explore on both sides, as the history of philosophy attests. Stop being intellectually lazy. Never ask an atheist that meaningless question again.
