Willamette Week probes the culture of ethically-void calculations - TopicsExpress

Willamette Week probes the culture of ethically-void calculations that have led to animal suffering and death at the Oregon Zoo - and it was written BEFORE the deaths of six cotton-top tamarins two days after they arrived in Oregon. Metro has lost all credibility when it comes to management of the Zoo, and only when voters install new leaders who truly have the animals interests at heart will there be meaningful change . Until then, the animals will languish, exploited for all theyre worth, in a facility that caters to Zoo visitors, not the animals. Its time for the Oregon Zoo to abandon its obsolete mission as a tourist attraction, send its animals to sanctuaries where they can live out their days in peace and comfort, and focus solely on species conservation and recovery - the only efforts in which the Zoo has demonstrated any real success.
