Willie, my little blind boy bird has been much more relaxed since I hung millet strips in his cage for him to nibble a few weeks ago. Or it may be that hes been here for 6 months and has reached a new comfort zone. This past week his beak was very overgrown and I was waiting for the pointy tip to fall off so I didnt have to put him through having it trimmed. It was so long though that I decided to trim it last night. When I picked him up, somehow, miraculously, the point snapped off. Relief!Once he was in my hand I decided to see if I could get him calm so I could give him a good massage. He fought a little but not like in the past. I got him to sit in my hand and relax to be petted and have his picture taken. Then once back in the cage he kept hopping onto my fingers. He sat on my thumb and I petted his head and back until I couldnt keep my arm in that position anymore. I know he was handled and had a routine with his first mom. Slowly we are building trust so he can show me how he likes to be handled and what he was once used to. He continues to get more precious and sweet by the day. We are very lucky to have crossed paths.
