Willis Hortons and new partner Three Chimneys Farms Will Take Charge broke onto the Road to the 2013 Kentucky Derby with a win in the Smarty Jones Stakes at Oaklawn Park January 21, ridden by Jon Court for trainer D Wayne Lukas. He went on to win the G2 Rebel Stakes with Jon Court up. Will Take Charge ran in all 3 of the Spring Classics but did not fare well. He did come back to run 2nd to Palace Malice in the G2 Jim Dandy Stakes at the Spa July 27 then won the G1 Mid Summer Derby, The Travers Stakes with Luis Saez. Will Take Charge followed that with a victory in the Penn Derby, he just missed getting to Mucho Macho Man in the 13 BC Classic by a nose, and came back from that to win a showdown with Game On Dude in the G1 Clark Hcp at CD to cinch his Eclipse Award. As of this date his race record is 7-6-1 from 21 starts and he has earned $3,924,648.
