With our children back to school, requirements can often lead to a cash crunch for parents. The cost of shoes, backpacks and supplies can add up especially for those struggling to make ends meet. To help local families in need, Metroland Media is spearheading the Just One Thing food drive, a two-week effort aimed at stocking food bank shelves in Collingwood and The Blue Mountains with healthy school snacks. The idea is if everyone in Collingwood and The Blue Mountains donates just one item, it would mean more than 27,000 school snacks for the food banks shelves. While food banks benefit from a variety of donations, school snacks are among the items often overlooked by donors. At this time of year in particular, theyre in great demand. Among the items needed are individually packaged raisins, dried cranberries, crackers and cheese, fruit snacks, peanut-free granola bars, fruit cups and juice boxes. To help, you can drop off donations at Beaver Valley Outreach (64 Bruce Street) in Thornbury, and at Salvation Army (162 Ste. Marie Street) and St. Vincent de Paul (St. Marys Church, 63 Elgin Street) in Collingwood. Thanks everyone. :-)
