Wolves 9 Minishant 1 Hanvey bags a handful. Playing at home and on grass for the first time in quite some time, Wolves never gave their opponents any sort of a chance today. As much as the valiant Minishant lads tried to take the game to Wolves they were given very few opportunities to score. However, they did find a way through in the second half when Neil Jardine scored with a great diving header from a low hit corner kick. Wolves took twenty minutes to find the net and the goal came courtesy of an OG when the opposing centre back slammed a well placed Michael Wescott cross past his baffled keeper. Wolves second came shortly after....Mckinnnon intercepted a poor throw out; slipped a quick ball to McAvoy, who in turn sharply laid the ball onto Hanvey just inside the box and the diminutive striker finished cooly. On the 35 minute mark, Hunter slipped a looping shoulder high pass down the right flank, deceiving the full back, who thought the ball was destined to go out. Hanvey ran inside the puzzled defender, controlled the ball on the shy line then headed in from the wing about twenty yards out. The keeper smartly came out to narrow his angle, but just as he dived at Hanveys feet, Wolves top scorer craftily chipped it over him into the gaping net. Wolves half time talk wasnt a pleasant one. The management team felt there was a hint of complacency in the first half show and let the players know it - big time. In the second half, Wolves looked a whole lot sharper and it was no surprise when number four arrived in 55 minutes, courtesy of Hanvey again....nodding in from close in, following a brilliant back post headed pass to him from Skippen. One minute later, it was 5-0.....McKinnon picked up a poor kick from the Minishant keeper. Drove a low through pass to McAvoy, who was just outside the box. The former Winton Rovers man then proceeded to find a route between two defenders before calmly tucking the ball away from six yards. One minute later... 6-0. Skippen square ball. Bingo! Michael Wescott on hand at the back post. Keeper no chance with a rasping shot. Immediately after this, Wolves rang the changes. Off went Skippen, McAvoy and Hunter. And on came Lee Gibson, Craig McPherson and Logan Stevenson. Minishants goal arrived seconds after the reshuffle. Wolves soon regained their shape and number seven duly arrived. Hanvey once more with a trademark slot in after some fine footwork earned him the right to get a shot off. Logan Stevensons pace further opened up a tiring away defence, and he laid on a delightful pass from the left for Hanvey to notch his fifth of the game - left with the simple task of side footing into an empty net after the keeper had been drawn to the advancing Stevenson. Wolves ninth goal was as cheeky a one as you will ever see. Stevenson was left unmarked in the centre of the field. He made a straight run in on the keeper. But instead of trying to go round him, he put his toes under the ball and lifted it high into the air over the bemused stoppers head, with the ball taking a hefty bounce on the six yard line before ending its journey high up in the net. No luck today for the babe of the team, Lee McLaughlan, looking for his first strike for Wolves. Late in the second half, the 15 year old sub saw a shot of his from just inside the box brilliantly saved by the keeper, only to watch in disbelief his next effort (off the resulting rebound) skelp the bar from barely six yards. Good to see Stevie Chou get some game time today - did well. And, of course, it was also pleasing to witness a return to action following an injury for Craig McPherson. 14 out of 14 lads......keep it up!
