World war z is a typical entertainer that dazzles you while hinting at unexplored depths. The world has been overrun by zombies with governments staying true to character and turning a blind eye till it was too late. With millions cramped in crowded places the major cities were the first to fall and with them civilization as we know it. Now it is upto a UN investigator to trace the route of the disaster in the hopes of finding a cure. Based on Max Brooks novel of the same name, World war z revisitsthe post apocalyptic genre of films like I am legend, 2012 and others only it does so with much more flair and technical savvy. Despite a paper thin script that strains the imagination at times ,the film manages some moments of almost visceral impact . Though ostensibly about zombies the film makes its bones through the portrayal of the devolution of human society, showling how when the thin veneer of order is torn away , it is the rule of the gun that prevails . Rioting ,looting, arbitrary rape attempts, policemen more busy looting than protecting all serve to show the ease of our devolution. The image of the soldier safe on a ship, grudging a little girl her food, there are too many people on the ship inevitably makes us question ,are we all animals after all However the film is not all gloom and doom, brilliant cinematography brings up israel as a new zion where the plague has been stopped by a vigilant government , the soldiers fighting to defend innocents ,beleiving in the nation that hasnt failed them almost lets you have faith (almost).The film runs on its interesting premise and technical brilliance, but is let down by its actors. Brad pitt saves the world with a clueless expression on his face ,even at the end ,let down by those in charge , when he negotiates a seperate peace...... you end up wishing for Eric bana or Christian Bale to comunicate the immense emotional possibilities lost in expression. Definitely worth a watch.
