Worth Considering… A Thought for Today The Triumph of God’s Grace “For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress; instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle; and it shall make a name for the Lord, an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.” -Isaiah 55:12-13 (ESV). In these lofty verses of praise, Isaiah sees a vision of the triumph of God’s grace when the effects of sin are rectified and the natural creation itself will be free from the bondage of corruption and will be able to praise the Lord. Many biblical scholars view this conclusion of Isaiah 55 (and even of chapters 40-55) as being of the time when God will gather to Himself all those who believe in Him and have trusted and followed Him. But even before that time of rapture comes, we have little visions of that glory, even in our present age. I hear from those who go out to do mission work, both here in our homeland and abroad. Their reports are akin to Isaiah’s praise passage. Their joy in the work of spreading the Word of the Lord is like seeing the mountains break forth into singing and the trees clapping their hands. The results of their spiritual labors are like seeing the cypress and myrtle trees thrive. The Lord has become precious to souls newly introduced to Him. And that is why those who bear the Word to others can “go out with joy” and why they are “led forth in peace.” Prayer: Thank you, Lord, that many can still go forth in peace to spread your Word to those who are longing to hear. Thank you for the joy that comes to the bearers of Your word and to the newly redeemed.
