Would you apply for the most fun job in China? Stuck in a dull cubicle, punching keys on a computer all day, sighing at online quizzes that reveal how you are the kind to find happiness in open spaces and being one with nature? If that is the case, then this, perhaps, is just the opportunity for you. Authorities at the Bifengxia Base of China’s Giant #Panda Protection and Research Center, in Yaan, #Sichuan Province, have decided to invite applications for “the most fun job in China,” i.e., working as a #caretaker for giant pandas for a year. Authorities are hoping that the campaign, which is believed to have drawn its inspiration from “The Best Job in The World” campaign organized by Tourism Queensland, Australia, in 2009, will attract a range of people and help promote a greater understanding of the work that goes into protecting pandas. Apart from offering the unique opportunity, the research center has also made sure that those who do get hired will be well compensated. The annual remuneration for those hired is set at 200,000 Yuan ($32,576), along with additional perks such as an SUV for transport and free meals and accommodation. We want more people to pay attention to giant pandas protection work and participate, said Heng Yi, an official at the center. In panda-loving China, a large number of users on social media have suggested that they would be keen to apply for the job. “I have bred cows, pigs and rabbits in the past, and kept a cat and a dog as pets. This job suits my strengths very well!” @Guaibuguai. However, there were those like Ye Mingxin, a marketing manager, who cautioned that, while the opportunity does seem exciting, the daily job really wouldn’t be so easy. You need perseverance for this job…inside the giant panda base, the choices (for food) will not be many, Ye was quoted as saying in a Xinhua report. And Ye didn’t seem to be the only one with that view. “Great news! But it’s better for someone strong. Pandas are not so tame as they look.” @Dugudalong Over the next month, events promoting the campaign will be held in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu and Guangzhou. Those interested can also visit fun.sohu to apply until July 15th.
