Wouldnt it be nice if there was a published list each year pushed directly into our faces from the government, listing companies that operate in the UK. But, through clever accounting, pay tiny amounts of tax towards our counties infrastructure, the NHS and our poor? Imagine if Tesco only paid 10% of its profits to the Inland Revenue but Asda paid 35%, would that influence your buying decisions? Its a strange state of affairs when a company can get away with paying tax and have CEOs hailed as clever business men, yet if an individual tries something like that, with their income tax or benefits, theyre branded as a crook. Even though all they wanted was to put food on the table and improve their quality of life. Not pile the extra income into a Coots bank account where the numbers are just an extra set of neon zeros.
