Wow....why I have, throughout my forty-three years, said this without actually saying it, I have to applaud my friend and comrade Jessica R McJunkins for laying it down. Respond, comment, unfriend as you so choose: An open letter to musicians who struggle with the basic idea of being a grown up during rehearsal: Your privilege is everywhere, from the inconspicuous way in which you stroll down the street, to the easy way in which you literally laugh and talk through every rehearsal, so loudly that I cannot hear any direction, and were not even sitting near each other. I am literally choking on your privilege. These are the things you dont think about, because you dont have to. Because no one will call you a thug, or boisterous when you cant STFU and do your job. No one will question your ability to play your instrument, no one will assume that youre only there to fill a quota. And every time you do this, you spit in the face of every Black classical musician who has had to bring it 250% to be accepted on that stage as an equal to everyone else. You struggle to sit still for longer than 5 minutes, yet you are the FIRST to be shocked when people want to question the legitimacy of our profession. Im sorry, I just cant leave it alone anymore. I see it everywhere I go. You know who you are. You are the majority. Please get it together. Peace, JM
