Wrote this & thought I would share :) Are you considering having a big family? As a mom of four, these are the things I would tell you young girls about having lots of children: -Someone will always, always walk through the trash pile when youre sweeping. Every time. -Someone will always, always need a diaper changed or a nosebleed stopped or a knee bandaged or a conflict resolved. At every time of day. -You will spend a lot of time dealing with disappointed, angry little people. Life isnt fair, and it especially seems that way when youre 4, or 15, or 8 1/2, or 13 months. -You will spend a lot of years wondering what it would be like to eat your dinner - just once - without holding a wiggly toddler or cleaning up an entire glass of milk. Because they never spill it when its almost empty. -There will be days when youre absolutely sure you cannot do any of this for another day. Days when three or four or five little voices asking for juice seems impossible to deal with. -Which brings me to this: One kid can never have anything -- even nasty medicine -- without at least one or two other kids crying for the same thing, and then checking to make sure they all got equal amounts. -Third row seating is mandatory. -Itll be 12 years before you sit in a booth at a restaurant again. -One store will NEVER have all the school supplies every kid needs. Never happening. Sorry. -Laundry. I spent five hours doing laundry today, and THERE IS ALREADY MORE DIRTY CRAP. -The food runs out at an alarming rate. If the apocalypse is ever upon us, and we cant get to a grocery store, my family will survive mere hours. A $6 box of 12 waffles? Cool, thats one breakfast. Now what? -There are so many words. Yet you only have two ears. But... -Youll get to experience the soft weight of an infant in your arms for many, many months of your life -- and it still wont be enough. Youll get to watch multiple toddlers take those first unsteady steps and LEARN LANGUAGE (miracle of miracles). It still wont be enough. -When you put on a new outfit, one of those little people will tell you how pretty you look. When youre feeling low or overwhelmed or slightly psychotic, one of those little people will tell you youre awesome, or thank you, or I love you. -The laughter. I didnt laugh this much in high school. The laughter is probably my favorite part. -You will fall in love over and over and over again. And not this lame boyfriend/girlfriend love or even husband/wife love. This is a love to end all loves. A love you cannot possibly understand until you feel it. -Someone will always let you snuggle them and smell their hair and maybe even rock them for a while. -Just when you think the fun is over, you get a TON of grandkids! Hopefully. And my mom says thats even better than being a mom. I say go for it :) Love, Lindsay, Mommy of Many -
