YET AGAIN, MY PRESIDENT GOOFED! I dont join the bandwagon to bad-mouth government, I dont belong to the school of thought who rushes to the social media to describe President Goodluck Jonathans administration as clueless and nescient. My arguments have always been issue-based. But most often, Mr. President policies do not give room for a refute of such insinuations. The Federal Executive Council, FEC yesterday approved #9.3bn to be expended on procurement of cooking stoves and bags for 750,000 rural women across the nation. The move, The Presidency claimed would reduce the hazard of womens exposure to the age-long tradition of cooking with firewood. However, after careful examination of such venture, I saw it as misplacement of priority yet again. Mr. President should have come out in clear terms that the money was meant for something different other than hiding under the incognito of wick stoves. The similitude of such move is tantamount to his administrations decision to purchase to 60million handsets for rural farmers months several months back. This administration has continued to show that it either lacks advisers with eggheads or that those advisers are bereft of ideas. How do you purchase cooking stove for a woman without food? What does she use the said stove to cook? There are many questions on my mind begging for answers from the powers that be. What are the modalities of sharing such stoves? Is it by party affiliation, religious inclination or by tribal divide? Who are to handle the distribution or is it goin to be like that of SURE-P which is left in the hands of individuals who are mostly cronies of Mr President? And after the final distribution, how do the women get the stoves filled with kerosene? The kerosene is said to be sold for #50/litre officially but its sold at more than 300% at filling stations, not to talk of the long queues. Now tell me, of what use is a stove that doesnt have what to power it-kerosene, needless to mention what to cook with it? Will it not have been better if such monies are used for empowerment? Imagine sharing a whopping #9.3bn among the 774 local governments in Nigeria to alleviate poverty amongst rural women, that gives approximately #12,015,504million! Waoh! What a good gesture you would say, but sardonically Nigeria is dearth of such clear-headed leadership! Not so? Czar Wysdom, CFR, VoM, GGFR...Àşẹ ñ tÈdùmàrè
