Yesterday I had lunch with Kayla at her school. They let parents come in to eat lunch if they want at the school so we make a date of it. It was me, Kayla and a group of 7 or 8 of her 6th grade friends. All girls. The most amazingly segregated place. Each table has either only boys or girls. I tried to encourage them to mix it up a bit and consider some diversity. One girl said oh no, that will not happen. When I asked why she rolled her eyes with a look on her face that said oh you poor pathetic clueless middle age man. Then she responded thats just the way it is and always has been. In elementary school girls eat together and boys eat together. Noted.
