Yesterday after a thorough analysis on the three sub-topics: (1) Unemployment and Underemployment (2) Radical and Extremism (3) Ethnicity and Identity Conflict in the African context during the SKIKA NATIONAL YOUTH CONSULTATIONS under the theme ‘Silencing the Guns: Kenyan Youth Building a Culture of Democracy and Peace’ as from 9.00 am-1.00 pm in Nairobi. Kenya. As I was walking along Loita Street near Savanna Coffee Lounge Loita Street I met Alfred who is a deaf and semi-street man aged 28 years old,who was pushing this wooden wheelbarrow in the photos below, collecting garbage specifically polythene paper bags and papers from the dustbin. His concern was the working class people come with rotten food from their homes and deposit in this jerrycans/dustbin,of which the reason why the bins were put up by the government is because when people walking or alight from city bus and city shuttles they can deposit their used tickets and tissues and polythene of what kind but not foodstuff.Alfred said that i the county government as come up with a plan so that there are vehicles that come to where people stay to collect garbage. The issue of accountability was brought up that citizens are not accountable because they do not want to pay the fee meant to pay the garbage collectors so they come and put in the dustbins. I was with alfred more than two hours trying to understand why he is doing this he wrote to me that the Litter collection is at glance and he is doing this voluntarily. I wrote to him where do you live?he wrote to me the place where God choice his life well comfortable. After exchange of many writings what i understood that he is sensitizing and him and other youths like him want job that he can use his energy not education.#skika #DGTRENDS DGtrendsUhuru KenyattaAfricanUnion YouthProgram. We need to silence these guns of unemployment and as I do capacity building in entrepreneurship to youths,I have come to realize not everyone can be an entrepreneur some want to work to get money using their energy and doing business rather they better attacking people at night with guns, thus leading to insecurity. As the young educated youth advocate for employment to be based on merit what about those who are not educated like Alfred?
