Yesterday at lunch, we received notification of an OBESE dachshund in an urgent situation. She had been surrendered to a kill only shelter after her elderly humans couldnt care for her anymore. She has infected eyes, rotten teeth and skin infections where her skin rubs together. The GDR team notified AAVA, the only rescue that is allowed to work with the shelter to get pets out, that we would take her. No questions asked, GET HER OUT! An angel named Angel, who had helped back at Thanksgiving when 18 year old Shorty was dumped at the same shelter, messaged us within an hour that FeFe was free and headed to her home for the night. Our Gulf Coast rep, Pam K, will be headed over to pick up FeFe this afternoon and get her directly to our vet in NOLA. Now we need your help! Preliminary, we know her eyes are badly infected, skin infections from being obese, and nasty teeth.
