Yesterdays post discussed why ALL farmers should follow organic farming practices. Besides producing vitamin and mineral rich produce, organic growers do not force the produce to be ripened. A good example is oranges. When ORGANIC are available, they have been NATURALLY TREE RIPENED giving them a much higher nutritional content than conventional oranges that have been picked green, for convenience in shipping, and forced to ripen. Consumers are guaranteed the use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), sewage sludge and ionizing radiation (irradiation) are STRICTLY PROHIBITED throughout organic food production. When converting to organic produce start with basic commodity items, such as apples, pears, oranges, broccoli, green beans, cucumbers and tomatoes. These items often have the least price differences versus conventional produce. The organic standard for raising meat, poultry and dairy prohibit the use of synthetic growth hormones such as rBGH and the routine use of antibiotics. All animals must be raised in natural living conditions appropriate for their species. The animals are fed ONLY organic feed and the processing of all meat, poultry and dairy products must meet organic standards as well. Compare this to CONVENTIONAL meat that is raised in filthy crowded factory barns where they are stuffed with antibiotics to keep them alive and rBGH for rapid growth. Their food is very sub-standard such as sewage sludge and GMO soy. Fat from ORGANIC MEAT is very healthy and free of contaminates.
