You have to give Fate a target so it has something to aim at. - TopicsExpress

You have to give Fate a target so it has something to aim at. Sometimes we keep our noses so close to the grindstone we never look up to ponder the stars. Keep this up long enough and its over all too soon. At age of 23 I left San Francisco and headed to New York City with a one way bus ticket and $45 in my pocket. I was going to make it as an Artist. And I did. I had two solo exhibitions and participated in a group show The Art of Money with Andy Warhol and other notable artists. Then I walked away from it all. At the heart of that decision was a pivitol experience which occurred during an appointment as Castelli Gallery. Castelli represented most of the Pop Artists in the 60s. During that interview Ivan Carp, the curator, took a brief glance at my work and said, Its interesting. But not threatening enough. I realized then and there that Avant Garde Art was an endgame which would result in blank canvases, concepts about art rather than carefully crafted objects intended to move the spirit of the viewer. Back in Texas it took some time for me to recommit to painting. Living in the Hill Country landscapes became the primary subject matter and my work wa just beginning to sell pretty well. Then the economic collapse of the early 80s brought sales to an abrupt halt. Fast forward to 2005. My sister Debbie a resident of Australia introduced me to Aboriginal Australian art. Five years later I was asked to paint a deer for the The Llano Trail of Deer Community ART Project. I agreed, not having the least idea what to paint. Understanding that a landscape wouldnt work I turned to my interest in Aboriginal art. Within the first hour working on Starbuck I realized, at 65 years into my life, what had been intended for me all along. I later went on to paint two more for the Trail of Deer art project. Now, at 73, I am keenly aware of my mortality and how precious my time is on this Island Earth. But I am more fortunate that most artists and still willing to paint another deer or whatever. I am busy working in a style which doesnt have a name. (It isnt Pointillism, although it shares many similarities.) Now, its back to the @LAST Llano ART Studio Tour 2015 painting. Stay tuned in....
