You havent been imaging this. Religiosity has been undergoing its steepest decline in American history. For increasing numbers of people, religion simply plays no part in their lives, even if they dont classify themselves as atheist or agnostic. The Religious Right, once a potent political force, is now largely irrelevant. Poll after poll show that young people are turning away from the religion of their parents and grandparents while their elderly counterparts, far more inclined to religion and god worship die off. Christianity is all but dead in Scandinavia and is dying in Western Europe and the Antipodes. This secularization process is now well underway in the USA and the rate is accelerating. I feel privileged to be living in a time where we very well may be witnessing the beginning of the end for irrational, divisive, and deadly religious superstition. I only wish this process were occurring for Islam to the extent that it is for Christianity. But friends, it looks like the good guys are beginning to win.
